Domaine Paterianakis

Product of organic farming

The Paterianakis Estate is an aged wine made from indigenous grape varieties with a cosmopolitan character. The grapes come from old organic vineyards; the red Kotsifali variety is one of Crete’s most notable, while Mantilari is renowned for its deep color and intense tannins. Together, they form a particularly successful blend.

Kotsifali produces wines with high alcohol content and elegant aromas, while Mantilari adds primary aromas, an intense red color, and rich tannins.

“Paterianakis Estate” consists of 80% Kotsifali and 20% Mantilari, holds PDO Peza certification, and has been produced by the Paterianakis family for four consecutive generations. Together with “Melissino Rosé,” they are among the first wines bottled at the winery. The label on the estate’s flagship wine was designed by the winery’s founder, Georgios Paterianakis.

Roasted or grilled meats; red meat with a bold, rich, and spicy sauce

aroma

A wine with a complex aroma of dried fruit and tomato, spices, and hints of vanilla and oak from the barrels in which it ages.

VINIFICATION

For each variety, the process begins with the careful selection and destemming of the grapes, which are transported by gravity—without the use of mechanical means—to stainless steel tanks to come into contact with the grape skins. After fermentation, the pomace is removed from the wine. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels. The two varieties are blended before bottling. Gentle natural vinification without filtration.

COLOUR

Dark red with terracotta hues.

PALATE

Full-bodied with refined tannins and aromas of smoke and spices. Medium- to long-lasting finish, dominated by red fruits and followed by sweet vanilla and black pepper.
