Domaine Paterianakis 2019

Product of organic farming

Domaine Paterianakis is a vintage wine crafted from indigenous grape varieties with a cosmopolitan character. The grapes come from old vines, and the red variety Kotsifali is one of the most notable red grapes in Crete, while Mandilari is celebrated for its deep color and intense tannins. Together, they form a particularly successful blend.

Kotsifali contributes wines with high alcohol, vibrant acidity, and elegant aromas, while Mandilari adds primary aromas, intense red color, and rich tannins. The blend consists of 80% Kotsifali and 20% Mandilari, and is recognized as a PDO Peza wine, a certification that ensures its origin from the Peza region. This well-balanced wine has been crafted here for generations. Domaine Paterianakis and Melissinos were the first wines made at our winery, and the label is hand-painted by Georgios Paterianakis, the founder of the winery.

aroma

A wine with a complex bouquet, combining dried fruit, dried tomato, spice as well as with vanilla and oak scents from the wooden barrels in which it ages.

VINIFICATION

For each variety, the process begins with careful grape selection and destemming, followed by the gravity-fed transfer of the grapes—without mechanical means—into stainless steel vats for maceration and fermentation. After fermentation, the marc is separated from the wine. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barriques. The wines from the two grape varieties are then blended before bottling. The wine undergoes a mild organic vinification process and is left unfiltered.
